Systems have existed forever, and they work when the people who are enforcing it actually enforce and not abuse it. The misuse of the criminal justice system is disheartening to me in NYC's urban neighborhoods. I have never claimed to be a gangsta - however, i have also never claimed to be a saint. I have managed to stay out of the NYC Criminal Justice system for almost 30 yrs. Unfortunately i was recently subjected to the blatant misuse, mishandling, and disrespect of the system handlers while they hid behind "the law" and "the system." This abuse is almost exclusively against African Americans, I AM DISGUSTED and APPALLED
I want you to tell me when was the last time a white person on the Upper East or West Side of Manhattan or even Tribeca have been arrested and put through the system for spitting, throwing away a cigarette in the street, jaywalking, trespassing, throwing away a bottle of beer (in the trash). These are the kind of offenses you had young black men arrested and violated for. You subject people to things that they should not, and I'm not OK w/ that.
